The Budgeting App That Saved My Bank Account
I used to wing it when I was paying bills each month. I had a vague idea how much was coming in and I had all my bills written down on my calendar in pen, but I felt like I never really knew how much money had…or worse, would I have enough money NEXT month!
Budget spreadsheets just didn’t seem to work for me. I’m a visual person and lines on a spreadsheet didn’t really give me the big picture of how much money I would have from day to day. I googled and found Calendar Budget and finally found what I had been looking for - a budgeting app that showed me from day to day how much money I had, even months or years into the future!
I imported the initial entries from my bank, but you basically set up when you get paid and how much and then when your bills are due and how much. These are your fixed income and expenses. You can also estimate variable expenses like groceries and you can add entries on the fly if you go out to eat or buy something. It lets you set up a monthly budget for all your expenses and shows you how much you have left for each budgeted item (or how much you are over). I update my CalenderBudget multiple times a day when I’m buying things so it’s always up to date, but I compare it to my bank each day to make sure they are the same.
A great thing is that once you’ve got your recurring income and expenses entered, you can look months into the future to see how much money you’ll have each month. Being able to visualize my expenses this way helped me get control of my finances. I can see where my money is going and what categories I’m going over on so I can change my spending or allot more money to that category. Each month, as I get emails about utility or credit card bills, I update those entries with the amount due (since it does vary from month to month).
I can’t rave about CalendarBudget enough. I never thought I’d be a “budget” babe, but this has made it super easy. Don’t let the initial setup scare you! Once you have it set, you’re just making entries when you spend something new or changing a bill to reflect that month’s amount due.
If buying groceries or something you need for your kids makes you feel nervous… that’s not right. You should be able to buy for your family’s needs without guilt or stress. That’s why I love the idea behind CalendarBudget. It shows you exactly what’s safe to spend and when, so you can shop knowing you’re in the clear. It’s not about restriction. It’s about confidence in knowing when to say yes!
